My Big Pretty Something - Why?

This blog is my attempt at documenting my experiences in working with my first horse, a 12 year old Quarter Horse Appendix mare. I bought Skye in March 2012 in fulfillment of a lifelong dream to have a horse of my own. I guess I knew deep down that I was getting a little more horse than I was ready to handle, but she was what I call "an almost rescue."  Although she was not mistreated, she was a little thin, had not had access to pasture,  had not had her hooves trimmed in over 8 months, and was not being given much attention. Knowing the seller wanted to unload her fast, I probably moved a little too fast in getting her to make sure that such a beautiful animal didn't end up in the wrong hands.

But beautiful she is, with a nice Quarter Horse body, a beautiful head, and eyes with such a gentle intelligent expression that she makes me forget she is too much for me every time she looks at me.  A bright bay with a star, she looks exactly what a horse should look like to me, which no doubt carries more weight with me than it should. When I was thinking about buying her, I asked my Facebook friends if I should buy a big something just because it's pretty? The consensus was yes. So she became my Big Pretty Something.

This picture was taken the day I got her.   She is still as beautiful as a supermodel, but thankfully no longer as thin as one.
